Yeah "Sterngaar" is a new buzzword but I literally just wanted a word for the area of space that covers the planets we've heard about that aren't in Avernian space, which right now is technically Geist (though it's discussing potential military alliance with the Avernian Empire), Caligula, and the Drakoni system. It's sort of like calling that area of space "Europe" or something; the planetary governments there are neighbors but don't necessarily get along.
This is also the first explicit reference to interstellar drives that isn't the gag that inspired LOP's title. I don't tend to put a lot of serious thought into LOP's mechanical worldbuilding until I need to; I've always thought of the comic as being a serious story that takes place in an 80's kid's cartoon universe so the mechanics aren't necessarily important until I want them to be.
(That said obviously I've had Ridpath in my back pocket for some time.)
