Part of the reason for the Parenthood Prep characters is that Roses and Rainstorms made it painfully obvious that Rose needs more friends of her very own. Red's usually pretty happy interacting mostly with his own family; it's what he's grown up with. But Rose is a bit more naturally gregarious and the only reason she doesn't have many friends of her own is because she's often too busy working. (And being a delivery girl means you don't have much time to socialize with your coworkers.) She's a forced loner, and I wanted to give her more opportunities to change that. :)
(And bonding over babies is a great way to start. Don't deny it; I've seen it in action.)
